LONDON UNDERGROUND tube map plan. Aylesbury. South Acton. HARRY BECK. March 1955. Vintage London Underground diagram of lines pocket map issued by London Transport; Harry C. Beck (March 1955). 14.5 x 22.5cm, 5.75 x 8.75 inches; this is a folding map. Condition: Good. The image shown may have been taken from a different example of this map than that which is offered for sale. The map you will receive is in good condition but there may be minor variations in the condition from that shown in the image. There is related information and images printed on the reverse side of the picture. This Underground map designed by H C Beck shows the first use of a grid on the diagram. The logo has changes and now has the word 'Railways' printed on the bar. On the reverse of the map is an index of stations with their grid locations. The map shows the Metropolitan line extending as far as Aylesbury (the line beyond Amersham was transferred to British Rail in 1961); the District Line spur to South Acton (closed 1959); the Northern Line City section from Old Street to Finsbury Park via Essex Road (closed 1975); the Central Line continuation between Epping and Ongar (closed in 1994); The Piccadilly Line spur to Aldwych (closed 1994); The line between Baker Street and Stanmore is shown as a branch of the Bakerloo line, as it was until it became part of the Jubilee line upon its opening in 1979.
