In original binding with green label to front, dated 1829 and rebacked, retaining some of the original spine. Corners, boards and edges scuffed and worn. New pastedowns and endpapers. Condition note for contents: from the rear coming forwards, there is a small puncture mark to some of the maps. This may be difficult to visualise, so please refer to photographs. Essentially, the puncture comes from the rear of the relevant leaf and creates tiny closed tears to the hole on the map face: no loss of paper. The maps affected are (from the rear) the map of Scotland; the historical maps; the journal leaf; the advertisment leaf, the supplement title page; the two Western Islands maps; the two Shetland Islands maps; Caithness; Sutherland. The next few maps have an indent but no penetration. Further details available on request. All maps hand-coloured. Minor spotting and minor dust-marking. Small tear to lower margin of title page. The odd pencil note to the reverse of a couple of pages. Frontispiece of the comparative heights of the LXIX principal hils in Scotland. Decorative title page dated 1826. Advertisement dated 1829. 29 county maps, with 4 spread over 2 pages making 33 numbered maps. For the second edition, there is an appendix of 7 further historical maps, followed by the Map of Scotland. 6 maps undated, 1 for 1827, 2 for 1828, the rest are 1830. (Ud4[y]).
