American troops are shown deployed opposing the British Army across the Delaware River at Trenton, New Jersey, illustrating the Battle of Trenton, a small but pivotal battle on the morning of December 26, 1776. Troop locations are shown for the Battle of Princeton, fought near Princeton, New Jersey on January 3, 1777 and the Battle of Maidenhead, a skirmish that occurred on 4 January 1777 near present-day Lawrence Township in Mercer County, New Jersey, then known as Maidenhead. Troop deployments around Elk Head are shown and indicated as at September 5th: the Battle of Cooch's Bridge, also known as the Battle of Iron Hill, was fought on September 3, 1777, between the Continental Army and American militia and primarily German soldiers serving alongside the British Army. Troops are also shown positioned opposite each other across the Brandywine Creek, where the Battle of Brandywine was fought between the American Continental Army of General George Washington and the British Army of General Sir William Howe on September 11, 1777. The forces met near Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, which is marked on the map. Troop deployments further illustrate the Battle of Germantown, a major engagement fought on October 4, 1777, at Germantown, Pennsylvania, between the British Army led by Sir William Howe, and the American Continental Army under George Washington. Deployments are marked near Englishtown and Monmouth Court House: The Battle of Monmouth, also known as the Battle of Monmouth Court House, was fought in present-day Freehold Borough, New Jersey on June 28, 1778.
