About this Item
Colour map 29 x 28cm and tables on one paper sheet 64 x 50cm folding into the original gilt-titled red cloth case 12 x 18cm. Sheet good with short tears and creasing, minor loss at intersections and edges, yellowing at the folds, with red crayon annotation to the map, and small patch of red ink staining to the verso. Case very good, lightly worn, faintly damp stained, with 2 ink stamps inside the front board (Tourist Bureau in Iran, Royal Estates, Pasteur Ave, Tehran; Association France-Iran, Paris 17e). This is credited to L. Amir-Moezzi, under Ministerial Order No. 20060. It is dated 27.10.1331 in the Persian calendar (17 Jan 1953), thus during the Abadan Crisis shortly before the coup. The map shows Iran in relation to its neighbours (Afghanestan, Pakestan, Oman, Turquie, Arabie Saoudite, Irak, but curiously not Kuwait), railways built and under construction, and various types of roads and tracks, with detailed index. A table presents stations, distances, and an altitude profile. The main table presents distances between 84 urban centres. Extremely rare - just one other copy traced on Worldcat (University of Georgia, incorrectly dated to the 1920s), none on Jisc.
