About this Item
Mexico by Joseph Wilson Lowry showing "Gadsden or Arizona" 1860 old map. Antique engraved atlas map with original hand colour/color; Joseph Wilson Lowry (1860). 37.0 x 53.5cm, 14.5 x 21 inches; this is a folding map. Condition: Good. There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is plain. This map is notable for the ephemeral naming of "Gadsden or Arizona" in the area south of the Gila River. This is the area between the line created by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Gadsden Purchase, which resulted in the inclusion of Tuscon and Phoenix within what is now the U.S. Maps which formally names Arizona as Gadsden are few and very rare.
