About this Item
Antique map of the eastern half of Brazil. The coastal area is shown in detail. West above. Title cartouche bottom left. Above it is a compass rose. Cartouche with scale sticks bottom center. Above an inset card of Baya de Todos os Sanctos. The map is decorative and shows various animals and scenes. In the middle two scenes in which cannibalism is depicted. Backside blank. In the margin at the bottom (and partly in the image) a tear in the center fold, which is repaired on the back. Hand-coloured copper engraving, published in Amsterdam in 1638 by Joan Blaeu in 'Le Theatre du Monde.' Dimensions (image): 38 x 50 cm. Seller Inventory # ABE-1661596718420
