About this Item

Parts of the four sheets have been dissected and mounted on heavy-duty cloth, to cover all of Shrewsbury at the time. Shows the town, Abbey, railways in great detail, the Station, goods yards, and the Midland Railway Carriage & Wagon Works; Rea Brook and Monk's Mill (corn), gas nworks and gasometer, a saw mill at the top edge, Shrewbury School in the SW corner. Marked on the map in blue and red ink are some proposed works, a dam and weir just west of the ferry from what is now All Saints' Recreation Ground (but was then Dorset Farm), a footbridge just NE of the railway viaduct and raised footpath across the field to where Cadfael Way now is, and a footpath and road from the station east of the river alongside the railway line to Abbey Foregate. Sheet 6 is 16 inches E-W and 10 ins N-S, sheet 7 is 20 ins E-W; Sheet 10 is 16 ins E-W and 17 ins N-S, sheet 11 is 20 ins E-W. Revised 1900 (11 1900-1901), publication date for 6 is 1914, the others 1902.
