About this Item

Scarce early issue of the first state of Ortelius's map of Persia, which was based on Gastaldi's 1564 map of Asia Minor and Ortelius's own map of Asia. It includes present day Iraq and Afghanistan and is identified as being the first state by the page signature on the verso of 49 which changed to 64 for the second state in 1573.
