Philips' Authentic Map of Palestine [cover title] / Palestine according to its Ancient Divisions & Tribes [map title]

Colour paper map 55 x 66cm, folding into original printed wraps 13 x 19cm. Map fine with some spotting, neatly folded. Wraps very good, lightly soiled. Approx scale 1 inch to 10 miles. Undated - 1875 is pencilled to the front wrap, although the only other copy located (Osher Map Library, University of Southern Maine) estimates 1862 (Worldcat and Jisc also locate possible later editions c1927 (Indiana State Library) and 1935 (National Library of Wales). The publisher's advert to the back wrap states this is no. 17 in a series of 26 "Philips' Authentic Maps of the Principle Countries of the World, uniform in size, and embracing all the recent discoveries", each priced One Shilling. Tribal divisions are colour coded, and relief shown with hachure marks. Alternative names for various locations are given, along with speculative river courses, and the Haj Route from Damascus to Mecca.
