Philips' Authentic Map of Turkey in Europe [cover title] / Turkey in Europe - Roumania, Servia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, &c. [map title]

Colour paper map 66 x 57cm, folding into original flexible black cloth case 13 x 18cm with ornately illustrated title label to the front, and publisher's adverts inside. Map good with tear along the length of one of the panel folds, and some short closed fold and intersection tears. Some yellowed tape repairs to the verso, just faintly noticeable in one or two places to the recto margin. The paper is otherwise neatly folded, lightly tanned, and the colours bright. Case very good, with wear to extremities and tanning to label. Scale 60 miles to 1 inch, with inset of Candia or Crete on the same scale. Each territory is coloured. Features include railways, heights in feet, and relief by hachures. The publisher's advert states this is no. 15 in a series of 29 "Philips' Authentic Series of Shilling Maps of the Principle Countries of the World, uniform in style and size, And Shewing all the Recent Discoveries and Political Changes". Undated, but other maps in this series are estimated 1890. Among other possible editions, it is on the same scale and stylistically very similar to the Bartholomew map published in 1878, and in Philips' Imperial Atlas of the World 1902. Rare. …
