Polus Antarcticus. Henricus Hondius excudet, ca. anno 1640 This early map of the south pole was edited circa in 1640. It is considered one of the earliest realistic maps of the Antarctic continent. The circular map also shows parts of South America, Africa and Madagascar with the incomplete coastline Australia. Early Dutch Exploratio in the region are noted. The map is surrounded by fabulous engravings of natives and early explorers. The map is old coloured with some restorations, the two below corners are complete skilful restored.
