[Promotional] Map of the Pacific Ocean Showing Distances Between Principal Points and the International Date Line circa 1900 Pocket Map measures 13.75 x 20.75 inches in 3.5 x 5.5 inch folder. inch by half-inch chip missing to map edge. Folder is moderately soiled. Good Condition. Curious promotional piece showing a map of the Pacific Ocean as published by the Fort Dearborn Pub. Co. Engravers and Publishers of Chicago, Illinois, circa 1900. Includes submarine cable routes and distances between major ports and demarcation of the international dateline. Verso includes nationalistic essays on the Panama Canal, Nicaragua Canal, Submarine Cables and the Pacific Sea-board. Folder and verso of map has advertisements for the National Supply Company of Toledo, Ohio. Item strikes this cataloger as an odd pocket map promotional item for, in this case, a mill supply company from Toledo, Ohio. We find no records of this map in commerce or OCLC but imagine numerous companies may have bought this little promotional piece for a memorable advertising piece.
