Hand coloured linen mounted paper map 91 x 69cm, folding into blue cloth case 12 x 18cm with printed title label and 32pp "Index to Cruchley's Railway and Commercial Map of London, with reference to Streets, Railways, &c." bound inside. Map near fine, lightly tanned with colours bright; Index fine; case good only, with tears and some loss to spine and wear to corners. Coverage is from Kentish Town (N) to Battersea Park (S), Notting Hill (W) to Southwark Park (E). Undated, but after the District Line opened in 1868, and before Gall & Inglis purchased the plates in 1877 ("Cruchley, Map and Globemaker" is marked to the bottom edge). Some contemporary features include "Site of the New Law Courts" (the Courts of Justice, land acquired in 1865, were constructed 1873-82) and the short-lived Horticultural Gardens in South Kensington (1861-82). Routes are shown in colour for omnibus, and railways and underground railways completed and in progress.
