From Brownsville to Norwood, PA. Back includes: a chronology of the Wanamaker business from 1865-1915; a list of places worth visiting; hospitals and other important buildings; an explanation of the naming and numbering of the streets; and other information about Philadelphia and the Wanamaker stores. John Wanamaker was a famous businessman, philanthropist, and Post master general of the late 19th century. He founded Wanamaker's, the first department store in Philadelphia, and was an early adopter of fixed pricing, money back guarantees and full page newspaper ads. His company published a series of Philadelphia and New York, including the first ever subway map designed for use by passengers.
