An antique copperplate engraved map of Rutland titled "Comitatus Rotelandiae Tabula Nove & Aucta" aka "A New and Augmented Map of the County of Rutland by Robert Morden, taken from William Camden's "Britannia", revised by Edmund Gibson, published by This map published some time between 1722-1772. Printed on laid paper with watermark containing horse with raised front leg in circle, indicative of Genoese paper (per William Algernon Churchill's work: "Watermarks in paper in Holland, England, France, etc. in the XVII and XVIII centuries and their interconnection" published in 1935). Contains decorative cartouches, rose compass with fleur-de-lis pointing north, scale of miles, border denoting degrees of latitude, longitude and minutes of time. Measures around 19 1/8" x 15 3/4" (485mm x 401mm). The map contains a central vertical fold. There are signs of wear but quite crisp. Minor toning mainly to extremities and fold line, and a little other marking but quite clean for age. See pictures for further information. Circa 1722-1772.
