Javier Aparicio Maydeu, Babelia
[...] Envidiable capacidad de síntesis. Aproximación minimalista en la descripción. Un novelista como pocos.»
Javier Payeras, Siglo XXI (Guatemala)
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
An extraordinary master at blending journalism and literature. "Human Matter does not need any rhetoric, or phrases any longer than one line to excite the reader: the honest truth that it exudes is just enough." Javier Aparicio Maydeu, Babelia "Although it may not seem so, this is a work of fiction." During the fall of 2005, Rodrigo Rey Rosa visited the Identification Office of the Guatemalan National Police’s newly discovered secret archives on a daily basis: "Far beyond the information I hoped to obtain from that maze of millions of police records accumulated for over a century, and after that initial visit, circumstances and its ambiance had begun to appear novelistic. A kind of small contained chaos which could serve as an ending for the macabre dance that was our last century ». From the notes taken throughout these visits, comes Human Matter, an overwhelming novel in which the sinister documentation of his country’s repression serves the author as the backdrop to tell his own story.
