About this title

Synopsis

You Don't Write Anymore? Is a collection of short stories by Laurence Cossé, published in 2006, which won College de France short story award. This book includes 11 short stories, all of which are about the same theme: the difficulty of writing. When we open the catalogue of each large publishing house, which is printed with the names of writers who published their work(s), we would be shocked to find that more than ninety-five percent of the names have been forgotten; many of these writers published one or two works, and then sank into oblivion before long. What became of them afterwards? No one in the world could remember they used to write, what did they do then, and what became of them? Writing never changed anyone's life, nor did it help anyone out of the miserable situation of the world. With her sense of humor, Laurence Cossé recorded the covert face of human existence and fate, poignant yet touching, shocking and thought-provoking.
