25 x 17 cm this 19th century Broadside with connections to Chester or the area where the Dee flows was produced at street rhymes c180. There are 2 small woodcuts, all legible with no splitting, a little curling to top corner and a tiny piece gone from top right corner, text not affected, a little ingrained dust or browning to lower 8th due to it once being folded and light creases just visible to the eye, but a marvelous survivor! "There dwelt a miller hale and bold, Beside the River Dee", etc. and "All hushed, save night winds stealing, O'er the lime trees and the river", etc. The opening lines of the songs. Rare. *Attibuted to Charles Mackay a parody of a similar ballad by Isaac Bickerstaffe (we believe, but could stand corrected) + The pieces together are ballads held by the Bodleian Library as "Roud No 13822 and 503 has both ballads identical and together numbered Bod2405.
