About this Item
A fantastic 1860's CDV photograph of the home of Neal Dow in Portland, Maine. On the verso Dow has written: "A little Home where Mr., and Mrs. and Miss Delavan would be most gladly received and warmly welcomed by their friend Neal Dow". Neal Dow (1804-1897) was a prominent prohibition and abolition advocate. During the Civil War he attained the rank of Brigadier General. In 1880 he ran for U.S. President as head of the Prohibition Party. Edward Cornelius Delavan (1793-1871) owned a major hotel in downtown Albany, NY (Delavan House) and was a Temperance movement leader. 2 3/8" x 4". Condition: Fine condition.
