About this Item
An artifact of early telephone history: a letter from an agent for Commercial Construction Co. to a client, enclosing ephemera with pricing for telephones. The ephemera consists of: one copy of a typewritten letter quoting prices for telephones produced by the Lambert Schmidt Telephone Mfg. Co. of New York; one illustrated trade catalogue; and one illustrated leaflet. All are contained in the original addressed and postmarked envelope addressed to Dr. H.V. Hubbard of Barnard, Vermont. Of note is the trade catalogue's use of Lady Liberty in its marketing; the upper wrapper depicts her holding the telephone aloft in place of her usual torch, in a nod to American industry and progress. Several models of telephones are illustrated within, along with brief descriptions of each. The accompanying leaflet illustrates three larger models. Letters measure 11" by 8" and 12.75" by 8"; leaflet measures 7" by 5.5"; booklet is 8 pp., stapled in original illustrated self wrappers, measuring 9.75" by 7" Good to very good. Wear to envelope, letter folds, toning. Several short tears to letter, which is rather delicate. Pencil to leaflet and catalogue. Seller Inventory # 22001210
