Adressed to Rolf Liebermann as art director of the Hamburg State Opera regarding corrections to his opera. "Merci encore pour votre accueil tellement amical! A mon retour j'ai bien voulu contrôler le problème de la petite coupure dont je vous ai parlé: c'est env. entre mes. 536 et 567(?). Je vous prie d'en parler à MM. Stein et Rennert. Car, sourtout dans le cadre hambourgois du mois prochain, il serait in admissible une coupure: cela signiferait encourager d'autres à suivre un 'example' qui n'est pas un 'example'. Et voilà une première suggestion sur la modification au texte: pas plus qu'une 'première suggestion' - car l'allemend n'est pas ma langue maternelle." Enclosed is a reply letter from Liebermann, as a signed carbon copy, also in French, in which he reports having consulted with the director of the orchestra regarding the changes suggested by Dallapiccola and proposes a variant for the German text that better fits the "prosodie" i.e. speech melody.
