The poem, dated 1961 was sent to Iv�n Boldizs�r, a Hungarian novelist, writer and editor. Some lines (such as "In April they open the prisons") refer to the envisaged amnesty for those who have been arrested after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Doris Lessing was awarded to Nobel Prize in Literature in 2007. She is known as the pioneer of feminist writing and the fight against colonialism.
