[Recto:] 120 William Square London 15 June 48 Dear and Revd Sir! I hope you are in possession of my last letter and I trust you are at liberty to do according to my direction I have since you I also have [missing section in letter]d to [our] [] Mr Ansel but I believe as you are in possession of the said concern you need not wait until or for his consent. Mr H. Cohen most likely will advise you in the matter if you require it. be so a kind and [as?] a friend to me I shall always be thankful to you for it. Perhaps I may visit you one of this days, and make it all right again in Europe is it all at an end I know not how to earn a shilling If I had these fees [] now I could help me a little with it. I therefor hope you try your best. Leeser Philadelphia [The Leeser archives have the following that is related:] Mr Isaac Leeser Baltimore November 9/47 dear Cousin I received this morning a Letter from you enclosing me One from Mr Winkler which surprised me much, and also regretted that I had never heard or known any thing of his having made a shipment to me of any artickes (sic) of goods, I regret it much as he must be in want of the money and where I to receive the articles I would of course remit him some money forthwith although he send the articles of his own accord without my Order, As I had written him that I did not deal on any thing of the Kind. I have no letters from him nor any means to Irdentify (sic) the Goods, if your friend whom you mention Can find out so as to get them I should take it as a particular favor. Should on order or Receipt of mine be necessary I will send it with pleasure Mrs Ansel and Sarah desire to be particularly Rememberd to you I shall wait further advise from you or your friend before I write to Mr. Winkler which I hope will be ere long My bussiness (sic) is quite prosperous hir (sic), but dont like Balt as I do Phil I presume you are aware that the Mitzwiss are not sold in our shool hir (sic) and they have abolished it because you spoke or wrote against its practice, Still the order and decorum which a house of worship is entitled to ours dont re? receive, as the yare a very hard sett I hope your health is good and should you come to Balt shall be please to see you. [Another letter from the Leeser archives sheds light on this:] New York Novembre (sic) 30th 1847 My dear Mr Leeser At last I have obtained the Care of Naidwan ([?] to Mr Ansel by D Winkler of London) from the Custom House and forward the same this day to you address for [?] & for Express. I hope it will reach you in safety The appraisers at Custom &c. have placed the value of the Goods much below Mr Winklers valuation, they making it only £28. besides charges. And the whole amt of expenses, including Duty Bonds Permits &c &c in $43.90/100. The appraiser who valued the Goods says if they cost £41.10.8. they were purchased at enormously high prices. And thinks there must be some mistake in the figures. For contents of the case appear to be principally Razors. but as to there (sic) value or quality I am totally unacquainted. I have no doubt however but that they can be sold I regret that I was compelled to leave here without serving you but having been sent for I had no alternative. I shall probably have to [?] here all the wish. Should you have anything requiring attention here, please address me as heretofore. I hope Mr Cozens and little Ella are well.
