This is a (rather bad, but genuine) 12-page A4 photocopy of Rushdie's text "The New Empire" broadcast on Channel Four, in near fine condition. On the top of the first page, the following caution precedes the text: "The text is embargoed until transmission of OPINIONS 9.30 p.m. December 6, 1982. Full text will be published in New Society on Thursday, December 9, 1982. Brief passages from the text my be quoted for the purpose of criticism and comment. For further information please contact Nicholas Fraser, 388-7401". The entire text exactly corresponds to the one later reprinted "The New Empire within Britain" in Imaginary Homelands (London: Granta Books, 1991; pages 129-138). CHF 300.
