This is a nice original letter from Cecilia Drane to her husband to be The Travel Writer Frederick Young. The letter reads, ?My Dear Fred, I write in a great hurry to tell you of the success of the information you gave me about your birth. Do not ridicule the language of the Stars, Mercury is the Lord of the Planetary hour, both of your birth & mine, It is their decree we are to be each others lover or blessing in the same star rules the destinies of both. Now you will only call this a strange coincidence. I am yours acutely. Thomas Drane (Cecilia Drane, signed in her fathers name for some reason) Plato goes on very well, but is not at present very intelligible, he kept me awake almost all last night, but Socrates says that an entire fast of 3 days, neither eating, drinking, or sleeping is necessary to understand the more subtle doctrines. I shall never do without my dinner.? Cecilia Drane was the daughter of Thomas Drane of Torquay She married Frederick Young in 1845. Sir Frederick Young KCMG (21 June 1817 ? 9 November 1913) was a British traveller and writer on imperial affairs. He promoted the permanent union of the colonies with the United Kingdom, and published works on imperial federation and the empire. He also travelled widely, visiting Canada, Greece, South Africa and Turkey. He was the son of George Frederick Young, M.P., and was born in Limehouse, London. He was educated in Homerton before becoming a merchant in London. In 1869 he began an association with the Royal Colonial Institute that was to last for the rest of his life.
