Add to basketThis is a World War 1 era tag issued by the U. S. Fuel Administration for "Tag-Your-Shovel Day", held January 30, 1918. This is an actual tag intended to be attached to a shovel - not the poster announcing the event. It was intended to be attached to your coal shovel as a reminder to conserve coal as part of the war effort. The front of the tag states: "Save that Shovelful of Coal a day for Uncle Sam". The rear has a list of hints on conserving coal. (see image) One of these hints unfortunately advises wrapping your furnace and pipes with asbestos - which of course didn't turn out to be such great advice. The tag size is 2-3/8" x 4-"3/4. The tag appears to be age-toned, but it is very clean - with no markings or creases. ; 2-3/8 x 4-3/4".
