9 manuscripts and documents, various places, various sizes. 1) Two lists, plus one receipt, of items purchased from the Honorable William Gordon to I. Johnson company. 1 page each, on off-white paper, slight water mark on top half of each, not obscuring the writing. For the first list, dated 1814, items such as pots and pans, teapot, lanterns and lamps including whale sperm oil, total being L 20.19.1. 2) Also a list of items purchased, also dated 1816, including whale sperm oil, the repair of a teapot, the total is L. 37.03. 2. Whaling Receipt. A. D. S. 1p., oblong 8vo., Albany, July 8, 1834, to Messrs. Crawford & Co., a receipt payment for "1 Bbl. Sprem face oil 35 1/2 Gallons @ 72 cents". 3) Handwritten copy of inventory of Estate of B. S. Adams of Fair Haven, Bristol Co., Mass., 1843. 1 page, gray paper, slight chip at left edge, good condition. The inventory includes a dwelling house in Dartmouth, one-eight and one-sixteenth ownership of two whalling ships, the Java and the Bank Lagrange. And also one-thirty-second of the Georgianna, a sloop, plus household furniture, shares and a note of payment owned, document signed by three appraisers. 4a) Barnard, Curtiss & Co., New York, March 19, 1849. One handwritten letter to Honsatonic Railroad confirming receipt of cheque covering above two invoices. Written on blue tissue paper, folded at left margin, creating 4 pages and then folded in three horizontally. On third page printed notification, dated, New York, February 2, 1849, to their clients informing them of a change in partnership, from 4 partners to three. 4b) and 4c) Barnard, Curtiss & Co., Manufacturers of oils and sprem candles. Two invoices, oblong octavos, terms 4 months, dated, New York, November 8 and 13, 1848, issued to : Honsatonic Railroad Co., 1 Cask sperm oil $175,87, and Honsatonic Railroad Co., 2 casks whale oil, $683,29. 5) Receipt 1850. Small octavo. W.C. Irwin & Co., Forwarding and Commission House, Philadelphia. 1 page, blue paper. The receipt lists 3 items purchased, 2 bbls, 1 box, 4 cans oil. Signed for W.C. Irwin by Andrew Dunlop. 6) Invoice of sperm oil. 1 page quarto on blue paper, Manhattan Oil Co., New York, June 17th, 1861. 7a) and 7b) 2 Bills, oblong octavos, F. S. Pease Oil Manufacturer, Buffalo, 1861 for Propeller Niagara. White paper with picture on train steam engine, the first is send to "Stewart" and lists 9 oil items, totalling $65,25; the second, is addressed "Engineer" and lists three puchased in October and three in November, totalling $74,50. 8) Metropolitan Oil company, 1 page oblong octavo. One invoice, terms cash, dated, New York, February 1, 1886. Issued to the Department of Public Charities & Corrections Purchasing Agents Office for a total of $40,00. Invoice of lbs. peerless extra engine oil. 9) George Delano's Sons, Manufacturers of sperm, sea-elephant, whale, blackfish, and menhaden oils, paraffine and sperm candles, refined spermaceti, whale pressings, etc. 1 page, oblong octavo, dated New York, December 5, 1890. issued to the Department of Public Charities and Corrections for a total of $86,67.
