Le testament d'Orphée, Jean Cocteau; carbon copy typescript, with autograph corrections in blue ink, 25 pages. Housed in a light orange folder with description of contents in Cocteau's hand and signature on the upper cover. In red ink in the top left-hand corner he has written 'premières corrections' (first corrections). This is the first of two corrected typescripts for the film Le testament d'Orphée (The Testament of Orpheus), written, directed and starring Jean Cocteau, released in 1960 (one of three films that make up the 'Orphic Trilogy'). The film reveals Cocteau as an 18th-century time-travelling poet. There are corrections, deletions and underlining by Cocteau in blue pen to 18 of the 25 pages, which are held together with a paperclip to the top left hand corner. In fine condition. Slight rust stain from paperclip to upper and lower copy. Crease to top left corner of upper copy; small stain to third page (pictured). Covers of folder and still held together by two inches of paper but both have largely separated along the length of the spine. Folder edges chipped with tears. Provenance: from a collection of correspondence between Cocteau and Denise Tual, director and film editor, who liaised frequently with Cocteau, who also narrated parts of Ce Siècle a Cinquante Ans (1950), directed by Tual.
