About the performance appraisal functions in the work log

The 'Pensenbuch' is one of the alternative forms of performance assessment which, to date, may only be used as part of a pilot scheme. Performance assessments serve both social and educational functions. These include the selection function, the socialisation function, the legitimisation function, the control and orientation function, the predictive function, the information and feedback function, the disciplinary function, and the motivational and incentive function. But from the parents' perspective, does the workbook fulfil the functions of performance assessment? An analysis of interviews with six parents shows that, from their perspective, the functions of performance assessment are largely fulfilled by the homework diary.
