28 photographic Illustrations. i.e. 27 single sided pages of photographic illustrations, 1st page is a collage of 2 photographic illustrations & 2 printed line drawings, then 26 pages of photographic illustrations with descriptions below in the image, showing the trade and life in the far north of Canada, many of native Inuit Indians, inc. on Slave River. Condition original brown binding fair/poor with edge wear/loss/folding, contents held with the original brown cord. Contents mostly very good, no inscriptions etc. photographic illustrations are glued to centre of the page. Minor page edge wear, all photographic illustrations are in very good condition. Mathers was one of the earliest and at times only professional photographer in Edmonton, Canada, In 1901 he made an epic journey, he travelled mostly with traders of the Hudson's Bay Company to Canada's North West Territories, and was able to take the first professional photographs of the Inuit tribes. Some with names and with various details written within the image at the bottom of each phototograph. Dated inside cover 1902 Edmonton before he moved to Vancouver in 1904. He was a true Canadian pioneer photographer. Size: 28 x 23cm.approx.
