Patsy Backx, vooral bekend als illustrator van andermans kinderboeken (waaronder enkele van Karel Eykman), heeft een grote liefde voor de sprookjes van de gebroeders Grimm en Andersen. 'De ijzeren kachel' van Grimm is een van haar favorieten. Niet gek dus dat zij nu met De prinses en het kacheltje tekent voor haar interpretatie van dit sprookje over volwassen worden. Universele thema's als nieuwsgierigheid, vertrouwen, vriendschap, ouderliefde, liefde en jaloezie passeren de revue. Maar bovenal is het gewoon een prachtig ge�llustreerd verhaal om al dan niet samen met kinderen te lezen en te bekijken.
