About the Author:

B. S. J. Isserlin has directed archaeological excavations in Israel, Sicily, Greece, and Spain. President of the British Association for Jewish Studies prior to his retirement, he served as head of the Department of Semitic Studies at the University of Leeds, England. He is also the author of A Hebrew Work-book for Beginners (1971) and Motya: A Phoenician and Carthaginian City in Sicily (1974).

'In both its scope and lucid style there is nothing that immediately springs to mind available in the field of archaeological or Judaic studies that even compares to the coverage Isserlin brings to his study. As such The Israelites is a work to be highly recommended. Personally I wish such a work had been available to me when I was studying the Israelite nation in my undergraduate studies.
