This specialized dictionary covers woodworking terms relating to carpentry, cabinetmaking, joinery, furniture construction, antique furniture, upholstery, species of wood, finishes, and more. Definitions are concise and clear with many containing brief historical (furniture styles) or basic how-to (pelleting, fuming) information. It is largely based on a series running in the British magazine Woodworker from 1962 to 1970, but updated and enlarged, and it is illustrated with line drawings. Coverage of U.S. terms and the differences between them and British terms is generally adequate. Brief appendixes treat major furniture designers, craftspeople, and styles. Recommended for reference collections with need in this area.
