Synopsis

The Ruby Moon by writer and performance poet Ruby Jebbour is a narrative poem, a dense and beautiful journey through time—a conglomerate fusion of verse touching life, nature, spirituality, religion, and history. The Ruby Moon is where Jewish thought, history, and mysticism meet the Red Road of the Native Americans—their teachings and traditions, and as well the beauty and wisdom of the Islamic world. By virtue of her quest to comprehend her own life and tragedy, the poet’s eye is able to perceive far beyond the scope of her own experience, unearthing the deeply spiritual and philosophical aspects of existence from the Garden of Eden to the modern day. The Ruby Moon is intricate and multi-faceted and captures the inter-relatedness of these worlds. The Journey is gripping and exhilarating, yet subtle and sweet—the author’s master of language and poetic genius allows the reader to comprehend and delight in the subject matter without being immediately aware of traveling at such a high velocity through time. The poet’s eye and personal life experience becomes center to life revolving—seeing ancient times in the modern day. The soul of nature sings a secret language here and history writes an epic song.

About the Author

Ruby believes in beauty and divine purpose, and that the sweetness of life can often exist and be found in the most inconspicuous of places. These relative encounters are not absolute or independent of tragedy and experience, rather they co-exist and function as luminaries in dark places. Ruby spent her early life in California and has travelled broadly. Morocco has been a second home and a significant and special place for her. In addition to writing and poetry, Ruby’s interests and loves include science, dancing, listening to Rai music and eating Harira “Moroccan soup”, and making very elaborate and intricate dream catchers.
