Synopsis
The book follows the journey of a woman who keeps a secret her whole life as she attempts to accept her mistake for the sake of her family. Born into a privileged British family in the midst of World War II, she falls in love with an American soldier and marries him. He returns to the United States, and before she could join him, she has one night of infidelity, resulting in an unexpected pregnancy. Yet the American soldier accepts and raises the child as his own. The secret and struggle to adjust to a life far different from what she knows follows her, until the end of her life's journey.
