This is a comprehensive history of Air Force tactical reconnaissance (Tac Recce) aircraft produced and operated during the Cold War in support of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO's) and non-aligned nations' tactical air and ground commanders. The aircraft are introduced chronologically based on when they became operational. Each chapter provides a detailed review of individual or groups of similar aircraft. The information presented includes the aircraft's development history; a description of the aircraft's physical characteristics; the number and type of sensors installed; the countries and units that operated the aircraft; information on surviving examples; and a table of the aircraft's dimensions, weight, and performance data.

The author has more than forty years' experience in the field of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), including twenty-two years experience as a United States Air Force (USAF) multi-sensor Image Analyst (IA) and more than fifteen years managing remote sensing research and development programs. As a USAF Chief Master Sergeant, his career included fourteen years' experience in tactical reconnaissance, with eleven years in Germany in support of NATO. He served in every position from apprentice Image Analyst to Major Command Staff Officer, representing the USAF on NATO Standardization Committees, and multinational steering committees and working groups. The author has a BBA from Cleary University, Ypsilanti, MI, and an AAS from the Community College of the AF with a major in Intelligence and Imagery Analysis.
