No Dad at Home is a series of short stories based on actual questions, concerns and responses children growing up without their father have expressed. The stories help use a child’s questions as an opportunity to teach children how to pray, leave a phone message, write a letter and other positive life skills a child will need. The short stories are relatable to children of all ages and they provide examples to mothers as to how to answer children’s questions with sensitivity while helping to reduce the feeling of rejection from the absent parent. Since the stories are based on conversations with a child, other children will be able to understand that they are not alone, and that God is always there for them and He will never leave them or forget about them.
Dakinia is a single mom of one. She was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised by a single mother along with 3 siblings. Dakinia was the first person in her family history to graduate from a college. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Lewis University and has been a teacher for over 13 years. Dakinia has always been an avid reader and has shared that love of reading with her son, and used books to teach and explain many things in life. When he began asking the difficult questions about where his dad was, Dakinia looked for books to help her with these conversations, but she was unable to find any. This motivated Dakinia to write her own. Unfortunately, there are millions of children growing up raised by a single mother, the questions children ask can be very painful and difficult for a mother to answer, Dakinia wanted to make provide a resource to make those conversations a little less difficult.
