How I Saved a Bank is a translation that combines Tadahiko Ito's two best-selling Japanese-language books, Spiritual Management and Celestine Lifestyle. In this volume, Ito explains his belief that "success" means achievements based on fundamental concern for the good of one's neighbor. According to Ito, contributing to cosmic coexistence and co-prosperity will put the universe on our side, and will guide us on our life path. He discusses the need to discover the goals originally intended for us; and he claims that when we are in sync with the universe, with our creator, and the rest of humankind, success and happiness will follow.
It is this belief system, with Christianity at its core, that enabled Tadahiko Ito to save a bank so weighted down by debt that no one expected him to do more than to sign the closing papers. In a dramatic turn-around, Kansai Urban Bank recovered and became one of the top second-tier banks in Japan. As Chairman of the Board, Ito continues to run it with the same philosophy.

TADAHIKO ITO majored in law, but ended up as a banker with the Sumitomo Bank (now the Sumitomo Mitsui Bank), eventually working his way up to Vice President. He was assigned the task of dealing with a small, regional bank teetering on bankruptcy when the Japanese economy folded in the 1990s. His experience in turning the bank's fortunes around was the subject of his first book in Japanese (Spiritual Management), which was followed by Celestine Lifestyle, about his philosophy on life and religious beliefs.
