About the Author

Eric Hiscock bought his first boat in 1934 and has been writing about his sailing experiences ever since. He was born in 1908 in Southampton and in 1941 he married Susan who became his sole crew on the many thousands of miles sailed by successive Wanderers.

Eric and Susan now live aboard Wanderer V and when not cruising they are based in the beautiful "Bay of Islands" on the northeastern coast of New Zealand. They have gained an international reputation as adventuresome and popular cruising folk and apart from a string of successful sailing books and articles, have lectured widely. The many lessons learned by Eric the hard way--at sea--have led yachtsmen around the world to follow his practical advice on many aspects of sailing.

In 1984 both Eric and Susan were made MBEs for services to ocean sailing.
