When she discovers a basket of oats, Hilda decides that the horse has left her a present, so she helps herself. A flower garden? It's a dust bath arranged for her pleasure, once she has scraped the flowers out of her way. And surely the tea and cookies on the grass beside the snoozing farmer are meant for a birthday treat! Children will enjoy the simple story, the gentle humor, and the appealing illustrations.
