About the Author:
Bob Chilcott has been involved with choral music all his life, first as a Chorister and then a Choral Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. Later, he sang and composed music for 12 years with the King's Singers. His experiences with that group, his passionate commitment to young and amateur choirs, and his profound belief that music can unite people, have inspired him both to compose full-time and, through proactive workshopping, to promote choral music worldwide.
Review:
Continuing in a similar vein is Bob Chilcott's inspired arrangement of another well-known traditional Irish song, Londonderry Air for SATB with piano accompaniment. Not beyond the capabilities of any reasonable choir, this arrangement takes an already exquisite melody and raises it to the most wondrous heights. Overall, the framework is very simple. The piece opens with a very effective piano introduction, setting the mood and scene so well. . . The overall effect created by the part-writing and accompaniment style, not forgetting the very beautiful source material, gives rise to a pieces that I am certain all choirs will enjoy performing and all audiences will enjoy listening to. * Music Teacher Nov 2000 *
