Jennifer J. Coots, PhD, is coordinator of the Master of
Science in Special Education program at California State
University, Long Beach. She learned about the need for
effective problem solving skills as a classroom teacher
and teacher trainer. As director of a longitudinal
research project, she learned about the power of
qualitative methods. This text brings together those
areas of interest.
Kristin Stout, M.S., draws upon her 10 years of
experiences as a classroom teacher in both general
