Each of the seven volumes of this set is devoted to a single offensive: Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Midway, Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Each author describes the events leading to the battle, strategies of both sides, composition of the armed forces involved, details of the campaign, its aftermath, and the battlefield today. Detailed color maps, tables of the order of battle, and copious period photographs support the text. Several of the volumes contain appendices that provide information including short accounts of those who received medals of honor (Iwo Jima), description of memorials, and tables of forces involved. Praeger's Illustrated Military History Series (0-275-98358-7) comprises a number of such sets as this and will be a useful resource for college students and readers interested in military history.
