I just came across this excellent book on the yo-yo at a Charity Book Sale.It gives a detailed history of the yo-yo, but mainly from the viewpoint of DUNCAN,the biggest and longest lasting maker of yo-yo's in America. The book was published in 1978,and as far as I can tell was never updated since that time. It goes into great detail about the owners of Duncan and the whole history of the company that produced the millions of yo-yo's that supplied the crazes over the years. It describes the details of designing ,manufacturing, business aspects, promotion, marketing and demonstrations and competitions that Duncan carried out to promote one of ,if not the most popular and longest surviving toys ,America has ever seen. It includes in Appendix A,The Official Duncan Spin-Top contest tricks,to be performed in the order listed. There ,the names of 21 Basic Tricks plus 3 Extra Tricks are listed and there is a simple diagram showing each trick. Then ,in Appendix B,are listed The greatest one and two-handed tricks,as compiled by Barney Akers and Donald F.Duncan,Jr.This consists of 62 one-handed an 11 two-handed tricks;each with a simple illustration showing the trick. This is an excellent book, and probably as good as any that was available in 1978.I would have loved to had a copy of such a book during my youth in the 1950's.I had a simple Duncan then, and there wasn't much else available. With my basic wood yo-yo, I could do about a dozen simple tricks. And it looks from this book ,not much changed in the basic yo-yo except the number of tricks listed, with most of them still relatively simple.(Amazon customer)
