Grade 8-12 Jody Hall, like many 17 year olds, is trying to find himself. He steals a car, fools around in class and is constantly comparing himself to his older "perfect" brother, Reve. Jody dates a Chicano girl named Ellie, who is also working out difficulties in her life. When Reve comes home for a visit, he asks Ellie out, and several months later Ellie is pregnant with Reve's child. Jody's realization that his brother is not perfect and his acceptance of his parents' help are all part of the maturing process that most adolescents go through. Many young readers will relate to this stage of Jody's life. Erin Hayden, Prince George's County Public School System, Md.
