Synopsis

Corey Burdick, a down at the heels Hollywood screenwriter, believes that each man should have many things he refuses to do. But he's down to his last one, namely to write for television. However, the winds of fate have other ideas and his very survival depends on them. "Mr. Baker is a natural writer who appeals to the emotions by allowing his characters to laugh and cry for themselves."-San Francisco Chronicle & Examiner

About the Author

Elliott Baker was born in Buffalo, New York in 1922. He has authored fifteen books, including ten novels, written numerous theatrical and television films and had one play produced on Broadway. In 1997 Indiana University honored him with The President's Medal for Excellence "for making a positive and profound impact on the literary field."

From Library Journal

Baker is a film and television writer and author of several previous novels, including A Fine Madness . His newest fiction offers a parade of Tinsel Town types: cynical screenwriter, aspiring actress, powerful bookie, menacing husband, smarmy agent, TV tycoon. Although Baker is a stylish writer, a genius would be needed to pump life into this cast. These failed-artist-as-jaded-screenwriter stories should at least have more humor, compelling characters and/or suspense than is found here. Even parody might have helped. Given the right director, the story could have made a great B-movie 30 years ago. But this tepid novel is a disappointment today. A.J. Wright, Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham
