One of Colorado’s oldest congregations, Central Christian Church of Denver was founded in 1873, before the territory became a state. Through the years, Central's membership has included some of the most prominent figures in Colorado history, including Governor John Routt and U.S. Senator Thomas Patterson. In the mid-twentieth century, Central was one of the largest congregations west of the Mississippi River.Throughout its long history, Central has occupied several different sanctuaries, and in 1971 relocated from downtown Denver to Cherry Creek South Drive, where it is currently located. "A Brief History" is the first written history of Central Christian, Denver since the centennial celebration in 1973.

About the Author

The Rev. Canaan Harris has been Senior Minister of Central Christian Church of Denver, Colorado since January 2012. Ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Rev. Harris holds graduate and professional degrees from Yale University and Texas Christian University. He is married to the Rev. Niki Jorgenson Harris, and they have two children, Ezekiel and Eden.
