Those men going to the mines deal with their fears and anguish about the poverty they are leaving behind through oral performance in which they praise their own strengths, history and hopes. Lifela (pronounced [difela]) is based on the older praise songs of warriors and kings. About the Author:

Mannini Mokhothu's early writing was teen-aged on rocks in her home town Semonkong Village Lesotho. She later took an expedition to Cape Town and graduated with BA Communication at University of the Western Cape. Her Screen experience started at the South African School of motion picture Medium and Live performance where she studied Acting and Writing for screen. After making an entry in London to undertake MA studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama University of London, she is now a freelance acting coach, writer , and actress.
