Suicide Season is the first of a three-volume series featuring Devlin Kirk and his partner Homer Bunchcroft--who much prefers his nickname "Bunch" over "Homer." The focus of the series is on those activities which cause harm but which have not, apparently, crossed the line of legality to involve police action.

"Meet Devlin Kirk, 28, Stanford Law School dropout, ex-drifter, ex-Secret Service agent, and now ex-son--his father, a hard-driven businessman, recently committed sicide. And that's just the beginning of this suicide season, which promises to be a long one. Devlin's father's former business partner introduces him to Owen Mcallister, an industrial developer who recently lost out on two $100-million projects when his proposal bids were sabotaged. It quickly becomes a case with many endings, none quite right by Devlin's mind, and a few beginnings, namely a young widow, coping with a close suicide of her own, who sees more in Devlin than just another hard-driven businessman. While Bunchcroft is out indulging his appetite for wiretapping and surveillance, Devlin criss-crosses the Denver of guarded estates, hospital wards, and melting snow, struggling to find an end to this suicide season.
