Kindergarten-Grade 6-- The prolific anthologist has gathered 210 of her personal favorites. The range of selections is broad, and they are loosely organized into 11 sections with such catchall headings as ``A Bundle of Birdbrains,'' ``Peculiar People,'' and ``Happy Holidays.'' The humor comes from the absurd characters and situations, wordplay, hallmark last-line kickers, or mischievous sporting with the traditional form. A one-page introduction gives a brief, informative history of the limerick and its characteristics, although mentioning its ``anapestic rhythm'' without explanation seems pointless. All in all, this is a funny, engaging collection, and although many of the verses have been published previously in other anthologies, it's more accessible to young children than Brewton's They've Discovered a Head in the Box for the Bread (1978) or Laughable Limericks (1990, both Crowell,) and is much more extensive and attractive than Lyfick's The Little Book of Limericks (Harvey House, 1978; o.p.).
